Hey IBYers,
First of all, wanted to thank everyone for continuing to make some kick-ass competitions on ibeatyou and welcoming all the new PeeWees to the site. You all are the best and make our jobs worthwhile!
Second of all, I wanted to introduce some of the new updates we made to the site late last night. I also wanted to explain why some of these changes were made, and also open up the dialogue to get your feedback on how we can improve them. Some of these include:
- New Actions Panel: Rating, Commenting, Awarding an Iby, Faving or Flagging; these actions are all done now inside a floating “panel”. We made this change because many users complained the old Actions “panel” was often cut off (by their screen) or tedious to scroll down to then back up while viewing entries. A balance was sought to keep it more convenient and handy, yet not be in the way.
- New Info Bar: The title, description and other info about the entry are displayed in a floating bar at the top of the screen and if you click on the “details” button, you can see the full title and description. Again, this change was made to keep the key information handy, yet not in the way. Thanks for your feedback on this part of the player and just know that we are working right now to address your feedback! Thank you very much for it!
- Turbo Vote: We’d been told by users that sometimes they have a need. A need for SPEED. They just wanted to vote and proceed to the next entry. The Turbo Vote (inspired by nostalgia for Knight Rider) was designed for just that, when you’re not feeling so chatty and just want to rate and view entries.
- Entry Comment Filter: Based on your feedback, we added a dropdown filter to allow you to see only the comments people have left for specific entries of a competition. Pretty self-explanatory.
Some of you may have also noticed the return of two features that let you stay connected with your friends: Ticker and Friends/Foes Entries on your user profile. Based on your feedback, we brought them back! So just know that we listen to all of your feedback and it’s very important to us!
Anyways, hopefully this post can help answer any questions you have on our recent changes. We DEFINITELY want to hear your feedback on how we can improve on these new features and other aspects of the site. Thanks also for already reaching directly out to me and GotGame about any issues or suggestions you may have. We hear you and are working already on addressing some of the feedback you’ve given so far.

I still don’t like the pop up stuff. It gets it the way and is annoying, plus half of the time when you want it to pop up it takes forever. I also think you need to put the description back on the make make, it dumb to his to click ‘details’ just to see it. And one last thing, fix the comment problem. Thanks for listening, RJBrian.

not my cup of tea. we used to know what’s the score of the entry right after we vote. the pop is annoying, and so as the ticker thing it is not that nice and unnecessary .I also agree with RJBrian.

Hmm i have to agree with RJBrian, the floating panel is a bit annoying. And i find it too bit to complicated to click every time on “details” to see the description.
big plus ^^ Some other things i would like to see would be that a user should have the option to add his birthdate on the profile page.
we love it
I like it to see the Ticker back
And the part on the profile page where you can see your fav. entrys. There should be a link for ” view all competitions >> ” for a better overview!! Like this on youtube with your fav videos.

thanks for putting the ticker back! i wish the descriptions and title would be right in front instead of having to click details to see the description. When we vote on an entry it would be nice to see the score change right away like it did before instead of having to reload the page. i don’t really think turbo vote is necessary. i LOVE the dropdown menu for the comments. Also i wish the number of characters we can type in smack talk increases. lol. overall great updates. : ) im glad theres not a bunch of ads around the site either. haha.

Hey, is there a way to access FAQ quicker, that should be placed at the top of the Home page. I like to see how far I am from the next level in points.

I also agree with the first comment about the way the old IBY was. I liked being able to see my score after a vote and the scores of others. I like the turbo voting b/c some of us like to just compete and not socialize, so a major two thumbs up there. But please, please, please return the old easy way of voting and seeing scores. I also liked being able to see how many votes an entry has received. I too understand that this probably took a lot of work, maybe it didn’t, who knows… but why can’t you just make the format wider and not taller? I noticed the problems that you addressed in the blog and was thinking that you could move the entries on the right over more to the right, that would move the main picture over some too, then you could have a floater/actions panel on the far left side of the screen and we could choose to have it out or hide it? The floater/actions panel can contain everything the old one had b/c it was just better than it is now. I strongly agree with the ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’ because i really loved playing IBY, and now it’s just different.

How do I see MY favorites… if I want to see a friend’s favorites I can go to their profile, but I cant find MY favorites. Also, can we have the option to minimize the ticker, so I can see current competitions without having to scroll down?

Hey Everyone! ImHungry here…..as GotGame mentioned, we really hear your feedback and are currently working on a way fix a couple of the things we “unfixed”. Just give us a little time and we will come up with something that you all will like! We are always going to continue to try new things and love the fact that you all get us great feedback! The one thing that we can promise is that we will always work on making iby better and if you feel something doesn’t work, as always let us know!

Your favorites are still there, they’re just in the same box as your friend’s recent entries. To be able to view your faves rather than what your friends are doing, just click “My Favorite Entries” to the right. The view will switch and you can keep it that way

please put the old voting system back.
Its nice to see the scores change after a vote that way you feel like you are making an impact at that exact moment. With that out of sight it kinda feels like an effort to go back and reload the page just to see the difference.
other than that i like the other updates.Its also good to see your not selling out with tons of adds to make a profit….its good to know that there are still decent people out there who aren’t in it for just the money.

The voting system is nice but not as nice as the original. Please change everything back the way it was before. I find it hard to locate the comment box now. Some of the picture entries are stretched out to fit almost half of the page. We are used to seeing the score right after we vote so thats a REAL piss off.

Sometimes when I make a comment, it says submitted, but, it doesn’t show up in the comments section. I’m not sure if this is a bug since the new update (it never happened before) but, I thought I would let you know it might potentially be one.
I like the new updates except for the description part. I liked it being in the window with the actual submission. Other than that, good work IMO.

Hey IBY gods! Some of the updates were great! I like the comments filter and the ticker and the friends entries. But yeah, the entry details… hmmm, the old way was better!
BUT, that said - its great that you guys listen and try new things. I enjoy seeing new things so keep up the good work!

I’m slowly getting used to the new format and just wanted to thank you for the return of the ticker and friends/foes entry section on the profile page. The only thing that I would like to see back the most is the descriptions to entries, some peeps leave really funny descriptions and I’d love to view them without having to click the floating bar, Otherwise, all is great and I like change so if it is for the betterment ( is that a word?! lol) of the site, go for it!

Yeah I know you guys will find a better alternative, but the flash being all crammed into the screen gets annoying at times, I move my mouse to scroll down while reading an entry and the pop up to give it a score keeps coming up, kinda annoying since I can’t read it unless I move my mouse away and in Charlee’s Graduation shout out to iooicheiooi you can’t see his face really cause the title bar on top cuts him out some, it makes it so we have to alter the way we film to make it fit in. I like the ticker being back and the drop down so we can see comments for certain entries rather than looking through all to find them is nice. You guys are awesome and I know you’ll make it better. Could you PLEASE, for God’s sakes, turn off the TURBO VOTE pop-up! It gets in the way of the picture and, in a lot of the cases, gets in the way of the punch line of the joke in the competition. Email me at rionrustle@yahoo.com and let me know if you can do something about this.

Could you also please make it so that we can edit our competition submissions? Maybe allow us to change it within the first 24 hours or so. And if not that, then maybe you could show us EXACTLY what it is going to look like before we submit it so that we can see if any bars or pop-ups are going to be covering the pictures or writing on our entries. Let me know whatcha think!

IBY! Could you PLEASE, for God’s sake, get rid of the “ibeatyou - challenge the world” symbol that is covering the pictures in the competition. It is covering the punch line of the jokes and the pictures and lots of other things that don’t need to be covered in the competion. AND it’s just annoying! Please get rid of it. Also, could you make it so that we could EDIT or DELETE people in our own competitions? Can’t we, the people that LOVE the website, be trusted as to whether or not someone should be in the competition that WE created or not? There are way too many people cheating and doing odd things and not even reading the rules for the competition that it is just driving me insane! Please write me back and let me know what you think.

I’ve seen one person I know get fouled out three times over votes she had for putting in a funny entry. The site is rigged to go to Alba, no duh, it’s her hubby’s site and isn’t fair. It’s as legitimate as bunnies, dogs, masks and a video of Alba in a store if not funnier and people see the fun in it, which brings more viewers to the contest.
The false fouls are not fair and if they were? Alba would’ve fouled out long ago from the amount of “I’m sick of Jessica Alba” comments alone. I am not bashing Alba but it’s lame to keep tossing someone who has had so many vote for her.
Over 10 boys said they wished they’d thought of using sunglasses and were going to. Hello? What’s that say? It’s FUNNY. Leave the staring contest alone and let them fight it out and peace it back in. Don’t take the fun out of it by those that keep you visible by many who never knew you existed, even with the TV/computer promos by Alba.

I’m glad the pop-up voting is gone! I like the fact that the options are still on the screen and they don’t get in the way of the actual videos anymore. Good job guys

I read someone early who had the idea and I agree with it. It basically stated that the person who starts a competition should be allowed to delete an entry that did not follow the rules of a particualar competition. I think there are quite of few people who enter competitions don’t or wont read the rules for a competition. Can this change, if possible, be added as a new update?
