Hope everyone is well! Fall is here in Los Angeles and that means time to put on those long sleeve t-shirts! BRRRRR!! :p
While we’re barely surviving the blustery cold, we thought now would be a good time to give some updates:
We Moved IBY HQ!
Some of you have probably noticed that we’ve moved our office from the chill neighborhood of Brentwood to the even more chill area of Santa Monica! We’re not on the beach yet, but A LOT closer to it! Since Gotgame started surfing this past summer, it’s been “wave” this or “stoked” that or “barrel” this or “gnarly dude” that, all day long. We figured that moving closer to the beach could only help her concentrate more. Anyways, you’ll start seeing our new office more in upcoming vids and pics. Random office vid at end of post (WARNING: you’ll never get those 2 minutes of your life back!).
Improvements to the Point system!
As ibeatyou has evolved its look and features, its point system hadn’t really changed much the past year. We finally got down to putting in a bunch of improvements that should making competing on ibeatyou more fun and challenging:
- More points for entrants: We wanted to give some more point-love to all you challengers out there! Now, entrants below 3rd place may get points as well, depending on how big the competition is. That way, say, if you finished 10th in a competition with 30 challengers, you’ll still get some points for finishing in the top half.
- Points for competition creators: Now, when you create a competition that blows up, you’ll get points for it! We wanted to give some more point lovin’ to people who create fun and popular competitions. Competition creators will be awarded (based on a super-nerdy secret formula) every time a new entrant joins their competition. The points will grow even faster as the comp gets bigger (i.e., the 100th entrant in your competition will get you more points than the 3rd entrant). You will be able to track this point total in real-time on your competition log, like below:
Other point tweaks:- Group competition points only count toward your group point totals and level, not your ibeatyou points
- Your first entry into a competition is now worth 2 points; subsequent entries in the competition do not get points
- “All Me” point bonuses now apply regardless of the place your entry gets, if it earned points
- You no longer get an automatic +10 points for creating a competition; you get MORE points through the new system described above

What? So if i make comps in groups or enter comps in groups I get no points at all? did I read that right? and now you dont even get points for making a comp…wow thats awesome makes me wanna make comps now!!

@ Heat,
You still get +2 points for your entry, whether it is a group or non-group competition.
However, the points you win in group competitions no longer count toward the overall leaderboard as it is unfair to compare points against non-group users. Those points will be recorded in your group only.
Finally, you still get points for making a competition. In fact, they are worth A LOT more, but just delayed. They just kick in when people join.

I make comps in groups so I don’t get voted down, so now I don’t really know what to do considering I always come last in non group comps. great.

We created groups so that people could compete against selected friends with a common interest or background. So say, The Photography group would compete in Best Photo competitions against each other.
The points they each earn are listed in the group, so that they can compete to see who has the best photos within the group.
We’re definitely open to any suggestions you have on improving groups, so let us know!

Hey, so let say, heat girl made a comp for the random much group. and we all know that those comps are made so they can earn points, beatdowns, etc. So the group will earn all points and heat and the others will only get 2 points for entering? so if she had a beatdown, which is worth like 15 points or something, that would be added to the group and not to her?

Yes, for entering any comp (group or regular), you get 2 points that go toward ibeatyou points.
Points you earn after a group comp ends go toward your group points, so you can see who is performing best in your group. These points do not count toward your ibeatyou points.

Hey… after talking to you steve I do believe this will make IBY fun(again). I talked to a few other people about the group standings thing we talked about, and they really liked the idea. I think like all the new things on IBY, it will take some getting used to.

I mean.. Some peeps here upload their entries almost only in groups and for what then? I think because of this peeps will stop entering in groups… It would be only a good idea if u guys would make a group rank on the homepage and in our profiles like the country rank oh and if u click on the group names there should be all the members from the group listed mhhhmm..

I seen Nadia make a comment in one of her entries, and she is right. We need to have groups more involved in how you do overall, or they will disappear. Because most of the people on this site(including me), don’t care about points that don’t count. So I like it that group points don’t count, but we need to have groups more involved in how you do.

A SOLUTION!
I have an idea for the groups thing, hear me out and please think about it.
What if you limit the amount of groups a person can make or own like you used to do that on making comps (10 comp limit).
For example I am allowed to own 2 groups only and within those 2 groups everyone in that group can earn points and make comps BUT there is a limit to both. Comp limit made in groups say 5 comps can be made per day in a group so people do not go overboard and get free points, so your keeping the people happy who love to enter group comps but also putting a limit on how many points we can get from groups so it is fair for the people not in groups. TADAAAAA

I like the new system. Now people are going to have to be more creative than just picture comps. Bring on the “videos by you” comps

The only one benefitting from this system is gotgame. As of right now, she is 4th this week in points. Team IBY wanted to see a change at the top of the weekly/monthly standings. Well the only reason it wasn’t different is because nobody else entered. And everyone on IBY only entered group comps to avoid DV’rs, not to rack up a shitload of points. So, I think in the best interest of keeping IBY alive we need to switch back the points. Because nobody is entering. I was getting like 600 notifs a day this time last week, and I didn’t even get 200 last night. PLEASE Team IBY, switch it back.

What you are seeing is an adjustment of point distribution; you will probably continue to see a shift in standings as the points system rewards users more fairly. We will continue to monitor it to ensure that ibeatyou stays competitive and challenging.
