A truly good fight scene is like a beautiful dance, only 100 times more brash, bloody and badass. Many of today’s movies are stuck in a torrid love affair with special effects rather than letting the fight speak for itself. It’s time to open a can of whoop-ass and highlight the most renowned fight scenes in cinematic history.
Most Intense Sword Showdown: The Princess Bride, Wesley v.s Indigo Montoya
The swordsmanship in this scene is amazing. Aside from the jump where if you look hard enough you can tell there is a trampoline, it’s very authentic. And the one liners are great.
- Honorable Mentions: Rob Roy, Robert Roy MacGregor vs. Archibald Cunningham

Favorite Fist Fights: Rocky, Rocky v.s. Apollo Creed
The Italian stallion defined badass underdog in this movie. He did it so well that it merited not just one sequel but five sequels; but none match the magnitude of the first.
- Honorable Mention: Cinderella Man, James Braddock vs Max Baer
Most Badass Battle Scene: 300, battle scene
This scene was epic. It has everything a great battle scene should, plus wicked cinematography. It’s bloody, brutal and just a pure beatdown.
- Honorable Mention: Saving Private Ryan, Opening Scene
Funniest Fight Scene: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Black Knight Scene
One of the most nonsensical “beatdowns” in movie history. While the humor or a man riding an imaginary horse being followed by a man with coconuts may not be for everyone, the fight scene has good message- when to say when.
- Honorable Mention: Ace Ventura 2, Tribal Fight
Kick Ass Karate: Bloodsport, Frank Dux v.s Chong Li
This is the kind of “beatdown” movie that makes you think you can kick everyone’s ass. It also makes you realize that, before he sold out, Van Damme was a damn good fighter.
- Honorable Mention: Fist of Legend, Chen Zhen v.s General Fujita
One v.s Many: Matrix Reloaded, Neo v.s. Many Mr. Smiths
The special effects in the Matrix trilogy were insanely groundbreaking for their time. Who didn’t want to slo-mo fight their enemies after seeing these films?
- Honorable Mention: Kill Bill, The Bride v.s. the crazy 88
Cat Fights: Undercover Brother, White She Devil v.s. Sista Girl
Cat fighting at it’s finest. Every man’s fantasy girl fight is played out with Denise Richards as one of the leading ladies, no less. Complete with ripped clothes and a slow motion shower scene, it’s a hard one to top.
- Honorable Mention: One Million Years B.C., Loana v.s Nupondi

Hello! You’re forgetting “They Live” the longest fight scene ever between Nada {Roddy Piper} and Frank.

Any Hong Kong movie destroys every category on this list. Fist of Legend a honorabe mention? I don’t think so.

Im pretty sure that the best fight scene ever is in the movie Ip Man, go watch it and when he takes down like 13 guys and barely breaks a sweat you will crap your pants and the feces will be all the movies on this list.
