If you have to stop your career for the sake of your baby, do so. Most parents lack time with their kids because of work and it has psychological effects. Be the greatest mom and always pray. ;) (see more)

...so whatever advice you get, no matter who tells it to you, you decide what's best for you and your baby.

This has always been my wife and my philosophy, so if you want to breastfeed until the baby's 3 and if you think it's the best for your baby, do it! If you choose cloth diapers over disposable, you're still THE Mommy...you decide. If you decide that your baby needs to cry herself to sleep, again, that's your choice. Even if it's outside social norms, if you think your child will benefit from not following someone's advice, then that's your perrogative as the parent. Mind you, I listened to everyone's advice, some I just quietly dismissed, others I heeded and follow to this day. :)
