Ah ha! Maybe Oprah was smart enough to realize that she and her audience had been duped, not by falsication of the truth, but by the subsequent and apparently irresistable triteness with which they so whole-heartedly felt the desire to identify with. Besides, he never called it a 'memoir' which usually denotes more 'truth' than other genres. But they wanted SO MUch to believe.
