What is ibeatyou?
Everyone is good at something. ibeatyou is a site that lets you compete with other people online in anything you want. You can compete with your family, friends, fraternity, team, classmates or anyone, using videos, photos or text that you post.

As you win and do other things on the site, you rack up points, all of which get tracked on your user profile (kinda like a baseball card). Even if you are not up for competing, you can make your voice heard by voting on who you think should win in the various competitions. back to top

So what do I do on this site?
You can join or start competitions in anything you want. Bring friends on board, talk smack with each other, rack up stats, or just sit back and rate other people's entries if you're more of the spectator-type. back to top

What should I compete in?
Think about what you're good at. Can you use video or photos to capture or record it? Most likely, once you put it up, someone will join in for some friendly competition.

How do I win a competition?
When you join a competition, you submit an entry using text, photo or video. People rate the entries; the entry with the highest weighted score at the end of the competition wins. back to top

What do I win?
When a competition ends, the top three entrants are awarded extra points. The winner is also awarded a "Beatdown", which is tracked on their user profile. Pride, some respect, and the right to trash talk...these are some inherent things you also gain when you win. Keep an eye out for special competitions, where winners can win prizes too. back to top

How is the entry score calculated?
We use something called the Bayesian rating system. The entry score takes into consideration the entry's average rating plus the number of votes it receives. These votes are compared to all the other entry scores and their number of votes to give you a weighted score. This prevents latecomers from 'bombing' other entries and ensures that earlier entries receive a fair chance to win. Don't forget, you still need 3 votes for your entry to be valid. back to top

How do points work?
Points are a way of rewarding your activity on ibeatyou and tracking how good of a competitor you are. The number of points you get depends on what actions you take, but generally speaking, winning competitions is the best way to win lots of points at once. Below is how points are rewarded:

  • 100 points - registering as a user
  • 10 points - starting a competition
  • 5 points - competing in a competition (submitting an entry)
  • 1 point - rating an entry (up to 50 pts/day)
  • 1 point - commenting on an entry (up to 50 pts/day)
  • 2 points - receiving an "iby" award for your entry
  • 2 points - logging in (once a day)
  • 10 points - inviting a new user who registers
  • ??? points - how well you place and how many challengers are in a competition all affect your point award total
  • ???? points - other actions?

Where are my points?
Points are updated on a nightly basis, so you have to come back the next day to see what kind of progress you've made. back to top

How do I unlock rewards?
As you rack up different stats on ibeatyou, you can access exclusive content and unlock special rewards on the site. Below are some unlockable rewards:

  • Customizable profile theme - Leave 10 entry comments (or rate 10 entries) and get 10 friends to register. Remember, to earn these, your friends need to register using your invites (so we can track 'em and reward you properly).
  • ???????? - ??????????

How do I get a profile skin?
A profile skin is one of the rewards you can unlock on ibeatyou. See above. back to top

What does 'All Me' mean?
Allme means that your entry is original and about you, by you, or features you (or your stuff). If your entry finishes in top 3, you get 2x points! back to top

Why am I a "peewee"? How do levels work?
Levels are another way of tracking how strong a competitor you are. The more points you build up, the higher your level:

  • peewee - (hey, everyone starts at the bottom)
  • jv - 150 points+
  • varsity - 250 points+
  • all-city - 500 points+
  • all-state - 1000 points+
  • all-american - 2000 points+
  • pro - 3500 points+
  • starter - 5000 points+
  • captain - 7000 points+
  • all-star - 10000 points+
  • franchise - 15000 points+
  • HOFer - 25000 points+
  • all-IBY - 50000 points+
  • ??? - ???

Why do I have a weird body type (e.g., Mary Lou Retton)?
Select on your profile page to change your Body Type to match what you think you look like. Otherwise, people will think you're a 4 foot tall olympic gold gymnast. back to top

What are ibeatyou's competition guidelines?
The ibeatyou point system is meant to reward people who compete and win fairly. Creating multiple accounts, submitting entries and any other methods used for the sole purpose of gaining points, manipulating scores or collecting votes are considered cheating. Our systems can detect cheating behavior; ibeatyou reserves the right to ban and suspend any users caught cheating.

What are flags and fouls?
Flags and fouls help us keep competitions fun and fair. Call a Flag whenever you see something inappropriate or offensive. We'll make sure to check it out and take appropriate action. Call a Foul whenever you think someone is not playing by the rules or cheating. If the entry racks up enough fouls, the Powers That Be will determine if it deserves to "FOUL OUT". A fouled out entry is INELIGIBLE to win a competition, so play nice, kids. back to top

But I didn't cheat and I still got a foul!
Many times fouls are called for improper use of 'All Me', described above. Everyone will get fouls from time to time. You can read more about 'All Me' fouls in the ibeatyou blog. Also, please read our competition guidelines above.back to top

I messed up! How do I delete an entry?
Unfortunately, we don't have a delete function. This is to preserve the integrity of competitions- so people don't drop out just because they have a low rank. If you made a mistake or uploaded something into the wrong competition, you can edit your entry. We have a great community and everyone understands that mistakes happen. You can go back and make the title something like "Woops! Wrong comp!" and people will understand. Your entry will naturally be voted down. back to top
